6 interesting party games for adults

Game nights are not simply gatherings of friends sitting around a table; they are immersive experiences that also strengthen relationships and create lasting memories. Typically, these nights include captivating video games, creative activities, board games, each that elevates the fun factor, making each moment more delightful. While board games are generally a popular choice, one can explore alternatives that can transform an ordinary evening into a splendid adventure, ensuring everyone leaves with cherished memories.

6 degrees of Kevin Bacon

This game revolves around one of the most prolific movie stars on the planet. Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon is a parlor game based on the hypothetical concept of “Six degrees of separation.” As per this concept, any person in any part of the world is just six or fewer social connections away from another randomly selected person.

Actor Kevin Bacon’s sheer body of work and decades-long popularity means that he is, as per this game’s creators, likely to be cinematically “linked” to any other actor within six steps. The number of steps it takes for an actor to “link” to Kevin Bacon is called their “Bacon Number” as per this game. For example, if Arnold Schwarzenegger is considered, then he worked with the actor John Slattery in Eraser (1996), while Bacon worked with Slattery in another 1996 film, Sleepers. As it takes 2 steps to “link” Bacon to Schwarzenegger, the latter’s “Bacon Number” is 2. This game is perfect for all the movie buffs.

Ruin a movie by changing one letter in its title

No game epitomizes the element of comedy more than this game. As the name suggests, this game requires players to tweak a single letter in the name of a given film and then give a summary of the new movie created. For example, a player can change Harry Potter to “Hairy Potter” and summarize it as the saga of a magician with a large mop of hair on his head. Similarly, Beauty and the Beast could turn into “Beauty and the Feast.” This movie could be summarized as the story of a gorgeous woman feeding the people in her village by organizing a giant banquet.

Movie scavenger hunt

The scavenger hunt game has been long known to be a great ice-breaker, particularly for people meeting for the first time. This game tests the player’s riddle-solving skills and attention to detail. To play this game, teams can be created to involve multiple participants simultaneously. Players can then start searching the house for various film memorabilia and objects related to a movie they are watching or about to watch. Teams are generally given a list of movie props to find and check off within a set time period. According to the game rules, players are not allowed to touch any objects in the house. But when a team locates all the hidden objects, they can yell “cut” to indicate the end of the game. Finding these multiple objects then leads to players uncovering a giant end treasure that links the game to the film.

Movie Buff

This is arguably the most renowned board game linked to iconic movies. Movie Buff, quite simply, includes a list of trivia questions that test how well each player knows the minute details of the films they watch. It allows players to choose the fun facts linked to their cards. So, over multiple rounds of gameplay, players can lay down cards of their favorite actor, movie, quote, or character before attributing a piece of film lore to it.

While playing this game, participants need to play all the cards they possess in their hands. If they cannot play the cards they have, then they will need to draw out more from the central stash. This game tends to play out differently every time, as its content depends on the movie trivia knowledge of each player at the table.

Charades

This is one of the most popular movie-based games played across the globe. It is a team-based game in which a player from one team receives a movie title from their opponents. The player must silently enact the title in front of their team, using non-verbal gestures, in an attempt to help them guess the movie. The guessing team is given a set amount of time to correctly identify the movie based on their teammate’s performance. To help their teammates guess quickly, players can also incorporate details such as the film’s location, lead actors, memorable songs, or other key information associated with the film.

Celebrity

Like charades, the game Celebrity also involves opposing teams and players guessing movie names, actors, and other cinematic details based on yes/no questions. In this game, one player gets selected with a sticky note attached to their forehead. This note contains the name of a movie, an actor, a famous song lyric, or other movie details. Since the player is unable to see this information, they can go around and ask other participants various questions related to film history. The others can only respond with “yes” or “no.” The objective is for the player to guess the information on the note using as few questions as possible.
